Hi, just thought i'd try to get some of your opinions on the current standings on the Blu Ray vs. DVD.

Firstly i'd just like to say that i've yet to buy into the whole Blu Ray thing and i'm still currently purchasing all of my movies on DVD, i just don't see the whole big deal about BR for quite afew reason including:

The price of movies is just so high
Theres the whole profile issues at the moment with BR
The quality jump from DVD to BR is not the same jump as it was from VHS to DVD
Being a collector of movies i love my current DVD collection owning almost 900 movies on DVD alone (not including TV shows, Stand Up etc....) over time i've managed to pick up exclusives with some really nice steelbook cases/slipcases/sleeves where as i just find the BR cases really do like cheap and tacky (i know i sound just a tad sad here but hey i love my movies and enjoy collecting them and its really nice to own nice good looking cases)

Have been searching the net to try and find how DVD and BR sales are doing currently, but can't seem to find a site with figures and a graph to actually show how the two compare (so much for being able to find anything you want on the internet with ease lol)

Anyways would love to hear what everyone thinks about BR and DVD and hear your views on BR and whether or not you'll be buying into it or whether you believe BR is going to turn out to be another LaserDisk.

I've been wondering pretty the same thing.
I've not bought BR yet nor I plan to in the near future for the following reasons :

The quality jump didn't seem huge to me when I compared them - but I be could convinced?
The availablity of players in Europe limited - about 3 available here in Belgium (>580 EUR)
The BR discs also seem to be limited locally for what ever reason.
The basically to switch it would mean a new player , TV & surround system ( I have an old Philips CRT with DTS )

I do think for people to switch there needs to more reason, like exclusive BR releases etc plus the price difference is very important ..bargins on DVD disk are always avaialble ...anyone managed to get a BR bargin?
One strange thing is I have never seen any HD equipment or discs here ?..I guess it was always going to be Sony.

I’ve written about why I like bluray on this same forum section.

I think bluray or any HD format really comes into its own depending on the size of your TV. Put on some DVDs on a high def’ TV of say 50â€

Thanks for your views guys much appreciated, at the moment i just can't justify moving to blu-ray for many reasons the most important things being i've still got a standard 28inch TV not in HD and have recently had to quit my job so my money flow just isn't that great at the moment, but its definately something i'll have to consider in the future as i'm really in the market for a nice new HD-TV as soon as i can afford it. Until then i'll stick with my DVD's nothing wrong with them at the end of the day, though i would love to see the latest movies in high def especially the new action packed movies like Hellboy 2 and The Dark Knight coming out soon.
