Lucky Number Slevin - Horrible vanilla release and likely the only release there's ever going to be.

I heard a recent discussion of cult cinema and why it can't be manufactured. The argument went that a cult movie must originally be intended to be successful and mainstream. If it's clearly aimed to only appeal to a minority that minority will likely feel patronised and ignore it. I will be intrested to see if this is what happens with the upcoming Snakes On A Plane which is the very definition of mainstream cult.

Lucky Number Slevin and another recent purchase Boy Eats Girl are far more potentially cult as neither was genuinely intended to be cultish although both seem to have been ghettoised the former by a possibly embarrassed Irish/Manx Film Board ("We FUNDED this ?!") and the former by no one really caring about decent distribution or marketing for a weirdo comedy-noir starring lots of usual box office winners.

I totally agree... I think the amount of hype that Snakes On A Plane has had already precludes it from becoming a true cult movie. It might turn out to be quite fun, or it might be a hopeless disappointment, but giving it a wacky title and making Sam Jackson say "motherfucker!" a lot does not give it cult credentials. Cult movie fans don' t want to be handed 'their' type of films on a plate by a Hollywood studio, they want to discover them themselves.

^^

Much apart from anything else if you discover a decent but unknown movie while you're watching it you feel like the only person in the world who's privy to this amazing secret.

I know that I'm a rabid Cypher fan because my friend and I saw it on the opening Saturday because we saw an advert on a bus and quite fancied it and it blew us away. Still not many people have seen it and while thinking that's a criminal lack of recognition I also feel quite privileged to be in the cult of Cypher.

As it is everyone's already sick to death of SOAP and this can only hurt it in the long run.

"Star Trek 3"

Took some unwnated DVD's and an XBox game in and got £13 credit at the exchange shop. I spent £7 of it on:

"Truck Turner" - £3 - Blacksploitation does not get much better!
You can keep your dull "Shaft" Truck is the man!
Worth the price alone for the great trailer and of course Nichelle Nichols who verbally kicks all kind of ass as the no messing Madam! She swears like a trooper and goes boldy far away indeed from Uhura!
Isaac is the dude.

"Final Destination 2" - £3

"Shooters"
- £1 - Brit gangland flick

HI everybody.
My last DVDs are

The Brainiac 1961 Mexican Horror With Abel Salazar I have not seen it yet.

The Black Sleep 1956 With Basil Rathbone,Lon Chaney,John Carradine,Bela Lugosi, and Tor Johnson - A childhood fave..

Mission Stardust 1967 - Italian Space 3-3-2-1 Morte... I have not seen it yet.
Russia's highest grossing movie

and Night Watch 2004 - Russian - IMDB says...into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others actually roam the night as vampires while a "Night Watch" of light forces, among them Anton, the movie's protagonist, try to control them and limit their outrage.

Oh well I've got some work to do......Later Vince
