Been listening to this US podcast for a few weeks and, although my initial impressions were that it can be a bit juvenile, I'm now really enjoying it. They cover some real obscure direct-to-video horror films and there's a real, unedited raw humour which is occasionally inspired - especially in the "movie pitch" segments. Highly recommended.

I like their show too, for the most part. When they're "on," they're *really* funny. But their humor does get a bit juvenile (burping into the microphone at least once in nearly every episode, for example), which turns me off a bit. But yes, they have passion for the genre, and much of their humor is gold.

It's hard for me to totally love their podcast when they dog the original Dawn in favour of the remake, especially when their cast is named after Romero. They do at times get funny. They seem to be better with the new horror. I don't get a real understanding or appreciation from them of classic stuff.

I've never heard them talk down Romero's films - they recently commented that the current classic horror remakes with the exception of the DOTD remake have been poor.

The focus of their podcast is current releases - particularly straight-to-video or cable releases, which they cover in a humourous manner befitting the sometimes tacky nature of the material. I do watch a lot of this stuff and so I get a lot out of their work.

I agree that NOTLPC is funny. No question. Sometimes it gets a little of the potty humour/frat thing. IF you go back in their archives and listen to their DAWN remake review you will hear them talking about how the original's pacing is so horrible and how "unscary" it is. But, that I suppose is down to taste. I agree it is a good podcast for current stuff. I am just not as sold on stuff like Jeepers Creepers and Silent Hill and what not, yet I understand they have to cover what is out there. I just feel the most of their coverage is on the current crop of hollywood/90210 horror. It is hard for sure to see the original Nosferatu and be terrified, but part of loving cinema and studying it is putting yourself in the era it was released and relating to it that way. I just feel their range is a little narrow.
I certainly would and do recommend their podcast for people that do like current horror. I guess if you want the older stuff or the more undergroud stuff you listen to Mondo. That's what I do.

Ah - thanks for that. I only recently started listening so hadn't heard the specific episode you mention.

And the original Nosferatu? It IS terrifying!

I totally agree. Ok, so Dawn '79 now looks a bit cheap and dated, but this was a low-budget horror movie made nearly 30 years ago (it's still one of the best films ever of course!). Equally, say, the effects in the orginal King Kong don't match anything done these days, but that's not really the point is it? It still looks amazing when you think about the era it was made.

I haven't listen to this podcast yet, but I will! I'm still interested in the Hollywood horror stuff, even if most of it is unscary shit and isn't really the sort of thing we'd cover on Mondo Movie.

Just listening to NOTLP 42 and the Mondo Movie forums get a mention. Specifically comments made in this thread.

For people that haven't heard NOTLP definitely check it out. After Mondo Movies it is my second favourite movie podcast.

NOTLP is a regular download for me as well. They're hilarious when they launch off on some stream of conscious riff and their focus on really bad direct-to-video stuff is a treasure trove for bad B-movie lovers like myself. Yeah, I could do without the over-abundance of crudity, but then again I just turned 40, so I'm probably just an old fuddy-duddy. (Whatever that is.)

After listening to Podcast, I think it's #38 of Mondo Movie I have to give Street Trash another viewing because I haven't been that into it before and I absolutely love Basket Case, Evil Dead 2, all the other classics. I picked up the single-disc version when it came out last year and, if I like it enough, I'll up grade to the 2-disc special ed. The previews make it look like something that I'd love though so I'll let you know what I think after viewing it.

I love NOTLP, they are great guys. We had Freddie and Amy on our Pickled Embryo recently. They are a lot of fun to listen to.
