I'm looking for something that induces a sense of claustrophpbia as well as The Descent. Can anyone recommend me something? (not The Descent Part 2 obviously!)

I don't think I've seen anything to equal Descent for claustrophobia but [Rec] isn't bad - locked doors, tight corridors, no escape.

The first killing spree at the farmhouse in Switchblade Romance stands out.

It's been awhile but I liked Stuart Gordon's Dolls for its we-just-have-to-get-through-the-night-in-this-house plot.

The first and second Cube movies are kind of claustrophobic.

Of course there's The Vanishing aka. Spoorloos as a companion piece to Buried (I much prefer the former. I found Buried to be fairly tedious and wasn't overly convinced by Ryan Reynolds performance).

Thanks for the suggestions. REC and The Cube are good calls, I will check out the others.

Spoorloos is genuinely chilling, the predictably Hollywood-ised ending of the remake is a joke.

Great podcast by the way. :)

I thought I was the only one who didn't enjoy 'Buried' I also found it tedious! I just got bored with it to be honest, Spoorloos is a much better film! It's not a horror film but a film that made me feel really claustrophobic is Julian Schnabel's 'Diving Bell & The Butterfly' a man becoming trapped in his own body after having a stroke! The opening scene shown from his POV as the doctors discuss sewing up his eye because it is drying up made me panic

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it.

Amazing to think that the Hollywood remake was directed by George Sluizer who did the original!

Ha! Buried dislikers unite
I agree with Diving Bell & the Butterfly. Schnabel did a great job of putting the audience 'inside' Almeric's character. Incredible film by the way.

Single room thrillers are one of my favourite sub-genres.

I'll agree with CUBE, definitely one of the best but I've never bothered with the sequels so can't comment on their quality.

EXAM was a recent one with some good ideas, even if it did seem stretched to fill the running time.

The Spanish film FERMAT'S ROOM is also worth checking out, especially if you like puzzles ;)

I'll also add ALTITUDE from last year. A lot of people hated that movie iirc but I quite dug it. A unique take on the single room theme.

I really like Polanskis. Repulsion and the tenant.
Uwe Bolls Tunnel Rats is pretty claustrophobic (yeah, I know....)
Hitchcocks Rope.
12 angry men.
Das Boot.

A few of my faves....

I actually saw Hypercube (Cube 2) before the first and really enjoyed it. I even liked Cube 0 the prequel - all pretty nifty low budget thrillers that play on a similar theme, but with acceptable (and fairly predictable) outcomes.

Exam was a very good low budget thriller too and I agree it ran out of steam towards the end and spread itself a little thin (bit too Sawesque in it's denouement I thought.)

Fermat's Room was another great little low-budget film. I watched that around the same time as Timecrimes - a great Spanish double bill there.

And I have to agree with Altitude. It was on at the Frightfest all-nighter and I felt like I was one of the few people who genuinely enjoyed it. A nice Lovecraft/Outer Limits/ Twilight Zone feel to it. Not ground breaking, but it did what it did well I thought.
