What's that?

I'll have to think a bit and come up with a list. 2001: A Space Odyssey has yet to fully work its magic on me, so may not feature . . .

No order and totally off the top of my head, but favourites are:

The Wild Bunch
Night Of The Living Dead
The Hustler
Blood & Black Lace
Dr Strangelove
Persona
Faster Pussycat
Once Upon A Time In The West
Woman In the Dunes (good call Ozu - amazing film!)
Le Samourai

Mostly pretty obvious choices, but hey, that's why they're classics!

Thought about adding that to my list, but only just seen it for the first time on the 70MC. Looking forward to the Criterion boxset so I can watch it again. Will definitely go on my 100 all time favourites whenever I update that list . . .

Lots.
Ones that come to mind immediately:

Planet of the Apes
Spartacus
Jason and the Argonauts
the Agony and the Ecstasy
For a Few Dollars More
Once Upon A Time in the West
Targets
Masque of the Red Death
Scream and Scream Again
Island of the Burning Doomed
Dr Terrors House of Horrors
2001 a Space Odyssey (my opinion of it rose considerably with most recent viewing)
Rasputin the Mad Monk

And if Witchfinder General aka Conqueror Worm was '69 I will add it here too.

2001 A Space Odyssey - favourite Kubrick.
Kes - favourite Loach.
Persona
If...
Last Year at Marienbad
Point Blank
On her Majesty's Secret Service - favourite Bond.
Dr Strangelove
Lolita
Witchfinder General

Kubrick was blazing through the 60s.

I did the following for the 70MC (the highlighted ones were the er, highlights):

1960 – Shoot the Piano Player – Francois Truffaut – France
1961 – The Steamroller and the Violin – Andrei Tarkovsky – Russia
1962 – Keeper of Promises – Anselmo Duarte – Brazil
1963 – 8½ - Federico Fellini - Italy
1964 – Black Peter – Milos Forman – Czechoslovakia
1965 – Alphaville – Jean Luc Godard - France
1966 – Hunger – Henning Carlsen – Denmark
1967 – Peppermint Frappe – Carlos Saura – Spain
1968 – Who Saw Him Die? – Jan Troell – Sweden
1969 – A Touch of Zen – King Hu – Hong Kong

All worth tracking down, but the pick of the bunch would have to be Black Peter.

Off the top of my noggin:

The trifecta of Bond cinematic greatness: From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Harryhausen fantasy milestones: Mysterious Island, Jason and the Argonauts, Valley of Gwangi

The one that reinvented the zombie genre: Night of the Living Dead

Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West

Lean's magnificent Lawrence of Arabia

Frankenheimer's engrossing, satirical thriller The Manchurian Candidate

Polanski's brilliantly filmed occult thriller Rosemary's Baby

The terrific literary adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird

Hitchcock's amazing Psycho

Kubrick's superlative 2001

Oof, my list already needs updating. We should have a thread for every decade . . .
