I was thinking recently that I really enjoyed and own copies of at least 3 films that have been commonly rubbished by lots of people!

Planet of the apes - Tim Burton remake
Van Helsing
Transformers 2!

I wondered if anyone else has had the same questionable taste? I don't mean enjoying films that are so bad they are good (eg Troll 2) but enjoying films that are generally classed as turd?! Eg Does anyone own The Happening

I also enjoyed VAN HELSING because i expected it to be complete bollocks, which it was but fun nonetheless. i also liked LOST IN SPACE quite a bit which pretty much destroyed Stephen Hopkins carrier. i saw SOUTHLAND TALES twice once in theater once at home and it fascinates me. theres a lot to like in this mess. oh and i really liked THE BOX.

I love Southland Tales and The Box, weirdly I'm not a fan of Donnie Darko, but I have a major aversion to Jake Gyllenhaal.

And yeh, it's official you're an Adam Sandler fan

Oh my god, where do I start? I like so many films that are rubbish! I'm a really big fanboy of the friday 13th series! I own all the films, endless books and documentaries and even a fibreglass replica mask from part 6. I even love part 5 as well which gets no love! It's so fucking seedy and the kills are pretty creative. Any slasher film i'll lap up and let's be fair there are very few that are good films but they just have a place in my heart! The film I love the most which i've shown to people and they have literally said "This is bollocks, why do you like this?" is 'Gymkata' I honestly can't see it's a rubbish film, I love it so much. As mentioned I also like Danny Dyer films as well, especially 'The Buisness' even tho it's just a rip off of 'Scarface'.

Just watched The Box last night and was thinking about the generally poor reception it got. I really enjoyed it, particularly the first hour. Still got to catch Southland Tales though.
I'll always stand by the made for TV film of Stephen Kings The Langoliers aswell. Something about it i just enjoy.
Rounders was a film that was heavily panned at release but i enjoyed it. Seems like its aquired a following now.
Oh and Vampires. I enjoyed a bit of badass James Woods vampire killer! I'm sure theres more...

I knew there'd be more.

Rocky 4. I bloody loved that film when i was young.

Red Dawn! God i wanted to be a Wolverine. Not sure whats happening with the remake though...?

Young Sherlock? Saw it not long ago and thought it was fun.

How about Biggles?? Became obssessed by that when i saw it back in the day. Still have a soft spot for it.

VAMPIRES fucking rules!! and anybody who says different hasnt witnessed the mandomness by the name of James Woods.
Carpenter should get back together with the guy and shoot some more masculine horror-action.

I'm sure if Vampires was released now it would possibly go down a storm. Vampires being the thing all the cool kids like nowadays?
I remember seeing a Joel Schumacher film called Flawless with DeNiro and the always excellent Philip Seymour Hoffman. Thought it was a wee cracker that gets unfairly lumped into DeNiros post 90's slump.

Willow - I love that film and always assume it has cult classic status, but whenever I suggest this to my film loving buddies they look at me like I’ve declared ‘Giallo’ as Argento’s masterpiece.

Doghouse - it got panned but I was pleasantly surprised by this. I’m not normally a Jake West fan but I thought it was a good example of a horror flick that got you knowing and liking the characters before killing them off.

Surviving the game - Ice-T goes Rambo as Gary Busey and his mates hunt him down for sport...seriously.

Corky Romano – although most likely unintentional, there’s a surrealism to this film that had me and a mate of mine in fits. I cling to the hope that it was intentional, which would make this film almost Andy Kaufman like in its genius

Speaking of which, ‘Man on the Moon’ was a flop but I really liked it. I’m generally fascinated by anything Andy Kaufman related though.

That's it for now but I'm sure there are more!

Surviving the Game! Yes i remember that. Not bad.
And Man on the Moon was fantastic. Great performance too.

Even though i'm a Carpenter fan and hate to see his work tainted, i didn't mind the Assualt on Precint 13 remake. In fact if can detach myself from the original i'd say it was pretty damn good.

Anyone ever seen a film called Purgatory? I think it had Donnie Wahlberg in it and was a sort of spooky western made for HBO or TNT in the mid 90's. Remember thinking it was really good but obviously it never did much.

Oh yeah and Tin Cup. I love a sports movie. And i think Costners Water World was waaaaaay too criticised. Not nearly as bad as any one made out.

yeah Surviving the Game--i should really catch that again...
Speaking of Busey I can still watch Predator 2

And I must add the infamous Batman and Robin to the list.
Yes I did like it.
:)

And Red Sonja.

I guess Masters of the Universe is a bad movie by most standards but I dig it as Frank Langella is great in it.

Also I dont mind another viewing of Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter either.
