I love Bolland comic art. I have the Killing Joke and the Judge Death edition which reprinted the return story with the Father Earth at the back.

I know there's an Art of Brian Bolland book but I am more interested in ones that have complete illustrated stories by him. Any recommendations?
And if there are any artists that imitate his style(precise rendering of characters between panels) I would like to check them out.

The Judge Death book is probably my favorite comic.

I have the first Doom Patrol graphic novel(Crawling From The Wreckage)Brian Bolland did the cover art for this as well as a few other issues i think.

Is it just covers?
I know he does tons of them but its his sequential art I really like---how he draws consistently between panels-a background character looks the same.
Seems like he mainly does covers-which is why I want to track down his full drawn comics--especially if he did other 2000 AD. The compilation book i got was printed in the 80s.
Anyway thanks
I am checking wiki.

Hey,

I have lots of Bolland books, he has a great graphic style. I've met the guy and he's a nice chap too, he signed a hard back book of his for my collection.

I'll dig out some suggestions for you as I'm not at home right now so can't remember all the titles.

If you like that sort of clean graphical style Moebius is a great artist (though he has many types of art styles and some you may not like. Geof Darrow has a great graphic style (Shaolin cowboy). though both these artists don't use the same inky heavy black lines that Bolland uses, they are a bit more delicate.

Brian Bolland's art book is certainly a great buy (with samples of a lot of his work from over the decade).

Cheers.

Yeah I'd like to get some recommendations!
Thanks! I'll check out those others.
I was reading that he did a Vampire Circus adaptation-I only recently heard that Hammer did comic versions too.

I want to get the Judge Child story- says he draws it along with some other folks.
But I want to look at stuff beyond 2000 AD as well.

I am looking at his website (do'h)
quite a lot on there.
Another thing I like is the expressiveness of his characters.

That's right he did do an adaptation of Vampire Circus for Halls of Hammer magazine. I really recommend tracking down old issues of Halls of Hammer magazine as the comic book adaptations in that were great, especially the stuff by an artist called Brian Lewis his adaptation of Seven Golden Vampires and Quatermass are great and brilliant to look at. HOH can be found on ebay.

Bolland's Vampire Circus pages can be found in his art of book.

Or on ebay...

I think I'll get the book.
I have an Alex Ross book and I am not crazy about him(I like his art technique but I dont know-there is something posed and stiff about the compositions I have seen. Compared to Bolland anyway..

Does any one know if there are any compendiums of Hammer Halls Of Horror? I can imagine that most of the issues will be nigh on imposible to get hold of now, thinking about these have really brought back some happy memories :D

Most issues of Halls of Horror (and the various versions of that title it went under) can be found on ebay, some go for more of a price than others. Sadly there was never a compendiums or recent re-prints have ever been available (possible rights issues?).

I have most of them in one form or another - in fact as a side hobby I've been restoring some of the comic strips found in my old Halls of horror magazines and returning to them to their former glory (actually better than their former glory) by re-scanning them and giving them a nice bright sharp digital make-over at a very high resolution and they look great! Yeah geeky I know! :) After completing some of my work it really is a shame they have not been collected together.

I would recomment any of the magazines featuring the strips of an artist called Brian Lewis as his compositions and action scenes are fantastic, as is his attention to detail.

The strips he worked on are:

Legend of the seven golden vampires (brilliant)

Quatermas (the first one)

The Reptile

Various short stories

But all the others are great too (Curse of the werewolf, Vampire Circus, Quatermas 2 etc).

Someone showed me a couple of scans they did of the Kronos one-the art work looks great. is it true they did a couple of original Hammer stories? I think he said they did an all new story with Kronos..

I ordered the Art of Bolland book and an Adam Hughes book (because it was promoted and I am a sucker for spontaneous buys like that-plus I keep hearing his name associated with figurines so i might as well have a book on him too).

I was listening to 11 oclock comics and they mentioned that a big fat book of judge dread stories came out featuring lots of Brian Bolland art. I think it is called "case files"
