Looking forward to this - produced by the guy who did the Blade Runner 5 disc - sounds like it's going to be even more comprehensive than the (already fantastic) dvd boxset! Weaver recording new commentaries for all four films, and a new sound mix for the extended Alien 3 - good stuff . . .

Hurray! Thats a blind buy for me. I just wish they would get David Fincher for a commentary, which probably wont happen.
Check out this link:

Early artwork for ALIEN 3 when Vincent Ward was still involved.

It's amazing how much trouble they had getting the third film together - so many different scripts from different writers. A Fincher commentary would be ace, but I doubt Fox has the balls, or Fincher the inclination . . .

"The movie called Alien3 that was made and seen around the world was conceived and directed by David Fincher, and is notable for it’s unremarkable sets and its unrelenting grimness."

Ooh bitchy :D I think the film has some fine sets actually. I've never liked the sound of that Vince Ward version, with it's wooden space monastery :? . . .

yea, the concept of the ward alien was a bit odd, but after having seen the artwork and the stuff on the extras disc of ALIEN3 i thought it sounded quite intriguing. could have been something special. who knows. i actually like the fincher film quite a bit and dont concider it the desaster many people do. surely flawed but theres some brilliant stuff in there. hate the 4th entry though. lets see what ridley will come up with next!

Yeah four is definitely the weakest entry, but there are still parts of it I like - style wise it is very impressive, though the Jean Pierre Jeunet-ness has clearly been reigned in by the suits. Great cast too aside from Winona Ryder - wish Brad Dourif had a bigger part. Hell, I even like the Newborn :D

Three I also enjoy, though it is pretty hard going, especially come the samey third act with endless corridor chases. A big draw for me is the wonderfully creepy score by Elliot Goldenthal, and I do admire the ballsy opening scenes (fuck you, Aliens :D) . . .

I would LOVE to see the Ward version of Alien 3 and the more I see concept art for it the more I want to see it. There was a brilliant Empire magazine article on Alien 3 about a year ago and they had all sorts of sketches and stuff, there was one sketch of the Alien lurking under the Monks wooden toilet area that was grim and scary.

On the DVD box set there were also some beautiful concept paintings and stuff. Before Alien 3 came out I was a free lance artist and a video game company asked me if I would like to work on the Alien 3 game and they showed me all sorts of artwork and set designs for a library and stuff that never made it into the final version of the film. I turned down the game art as I had too many other projects on the go but I've never forgotten the early artwork and set designs I saw.

Also as for an Alien bluray box set I really am not sure what they could add beyond what has been included in all of the other DVD boxsets apart from better picture and sound quality but I will not be rushing out to buy it just yet as the price will no doubt drop after a few months just like the DVD box set did which is now incredibly cheap.

I got the dvd boxset dirt cheap the week it came out, when Woolworths in Wolverhampton mistakenly sold it for £20 :D

New Weaver commentaries for each film is a definite bonus, especially curious to hear her retrospective comments on three and four . . .

Yeah - I was gutted but I had too much other work going on and didn't want to do a bad job, was still great to get a glimpse at very early stuff.

"De Lauzirika said that, while the Quadrilogy DVD was already very comprehensive, this Anthology Blu-ray set will blow it out of the water, with new extras and commentaries. Also, a new sound mix has been done for the extended edition of Alien 3, which involved bringing back some of the cast to reloop their dialogue."

Day 1 purchase for me!

I wonder if it'll include the theatrical and extended cuts of Aliens (which is still, in my mind, one of the greatest sequels ever).

Aliens is probably the one I watch the least - too much Cameron macho bollocks . . .

Oh come on...they're colonial marines for heaven's sakes, do you expect them to be in touch with their sensitive side? :D

I thought Weaver's Ripley and Biehn's Hicks were played as more humanistic people of action and perfectly balanced the macho posturing from most of the marines. Plus there's Hudson's collapse into a blubbering wreck, which is partially a deconstruction of hollow macho bullshit.

Did some digging and found boxart for the upcoming release on a danish forum (looks for real, could be fake though):
