The whole 'Kermode rallies against the Oscars' shtick felt especially forced this year - it's like he wants to be the film critic equivalent of Charlie Brooker. I remember he didn't have a problem with the nominees list when he did the 5 live broadcast as they were announced. I'm sure all of his picks deserved recognition, but aside from Chris Nolan, there weren't that many glaring omissions.

I love Kermode but recently his 'rants' seem more staged and unnecessary....better than bloody Boyd and Floyd though

Yeh, it seems that more time is put aside for the more predictable Hollywood fare that irks him.

Not too keen on Boyd Hilton, but I really like Nigel Floyd, particularly his writing for Time Out. He was a talking head on that great The Devils documentary: Hell on Earth.

BBC 1 Film 2011 is good these days. Claudia Winkelman has a sharp wit.

Don't bother listening to Mark K anymore. Read his book and that put me off. He is a film bore. I'm not fussed with oscars or 3d but if I had a podium would I bang on about it?

I enjoyed Stephen Merchant's dismissal of the Lord of the Rings trilogy on last nights show. I think I have slowly come round to the same opinion - couldn't be arsed to make it to the end last time they were on. And he is right about the giant eagles . . .

Yes that was funny and I'm sure many thought the same thing. Still like the films though. The ending is one of the least interesting parts. Good to see Joe Cornish on there. Really miss the Adam and Joe podcasts. They went from podcast to working with Spielberg and doing their own films so does that mean Dan and Ben's secret project is working with Jo D'amato and Gregg Araki?

Yeah they were on Lauren Laverne's show yesterday talking about it - I never heard their radio show first time around. I've come to enjoy Andrew Collins and Richard Herring's show in their saturday morning slot though. Also coming over to the station are Radcliffe and Maconie, taking over from Nemone in the weekday afternoon slot. I enjoy their radio 2 evening show, but rarely get the chance listen to it, so this is good news . . .

I really need to branch out radio-wise. If and when I listen to the radio I only listen to Radio 4 because it seems so easy to get a lot of the other good stuff as edited down podcasts - I'm bloody lazy.
