Ok so I have nearly come to the end of catching up with all the Mondo Movie podcasts. I usually listen to one every day or so in the car as I travel my 120 miles a day!

Anyway - I know everyone makes loads of alternative recommendations and/or self-promotes their own podcast, but that's too many for me to trawl through.

So to make it simpler - please tell me your second favourite movie podcast after Mondo Movie (cos MM is everyone's first choice right ;) )

Thank you very much!!

I really like the "Horror Etc.." Podcast and/or "Outside the Cinema" for horror/genre stuff and The Hollywood Saloon for less specific cinema.

You just made my heart flutter crashd!
I would personally second the recommendation for Hollywood Saloon for general film discussion and suggest Genrebusters for true genre film talk (with a nice slant to Kung Fu).

Yea, mondomovie probably 1st for me. Up there with it is definately the Creative Screenwriting Magazine podcast. The host (editor of the magazine) holds screenings for recent films (independent and big-budget) and interviews the writers (and in some cases directors and actors) afterwards. The questions are very specific, like how many many hours a day you write, how did you get an agent, the budget, financial details, most difficult scenes to write, how they got certain ideas etc... Good stuff.

Also, if your not bothered by something a bit pretentious, I'd give "Watching the Directors" a look, simply because of the sheer effort they go through for a show. They pick a director, and literally watch (or rewatch) every single film from that director, and then do a show. From what i recall these are the parts of the show: essential films, best film, worst film, best collaborator, what defines the director, desert island film, best dvd, director score (entertainment, technical, body of work, and something else?) etc.

Second would be Genrebusters or Hollywood Saloon.

Visiting: I like "Watching the Directors" too, but as you say it's a little pretentious. Also, the male host often talks over his wife, which is fairly annoying. They do put a lot of work into it though!

I'd say Genrebusters too, but the D's seem to be on a hiatus at the moment.

I also like Cinemaslave and HorrorEtc.

Great suggestions folks. Now that I've caught up on Dan & Ben's shows, those others podcast will keep me busy until the next MondoMovie podcast

I'm with Dogme. Hollywood Saloon and Genrebusters are the only other podcasts I regularly listen to besides Mondo Movie. I will listen to some others but I get tired of hearing how much remakes suck and this or that director or actor sucks, etc, etc. MM, Genrebusters and Hollywood Saloon seems to really like movies and aren't just there to voice their opinions (apologies to any other podcasts, but rest assured, I'm talking about other ones, not you).
I should definitely check out the Creative Screenwriting or Watching the Directors ones.

Mark Kermode and Cinemaslave are the only two i listen to every episode of, but Genrebusters, Hollywood Saloon, Reel Horror, the CHUD show and Outside the Cinema are all shows I really like and listen to often. I don't find myself listening to podcasts quite as much as I did... there's too much music and not enough time! I'll sometimes go through phases on gorging on tons of podcasts and then not really listening to any for a while.

And thanks for all the nice comments about MM on this thread! :D

....... and I would second any support for Kermode. Its just so, "Kermodian" !!!!! Much credit for his show actually goes to Simon Mayo though, who is the perfect foil to his rants. Mind you, after all these years ( and I have been listening to Kermode for more than a decade now ) a little less Exorcist please Mark - we have all figured out you like it !

For any who dont list to Kermode, his movie theory is simple:

Heaven ( Exorcist ) <everything> Hell ( Pirates of Carribean )

I'm kinda the same as Dan, i listen to few and far between these days (with the exception of Mr Kermode). It's quite interesting though looking around at the number of other shows that seem to have been influenced by what we do....man it feels wierd being an "elder statesmen". When we started we were only one of a few movie podcasts, let alone cult/horror podcasts.

There's even a little flame-war broken out between one of our listeners and Cinema Diabolica over on Podcastalley. I remember the Filmspotting wars of 2006......sigh

To be honest, anyone that starts a flame war with Cinema Diabolica, gets my full support! I forget what his podcast name is, but one of the people on there is a total and utter prick :( I'll give you a clue, he's the one that does most of the talking. I did listen to the podcast for a while, but he got on my nerves, and i decided to concentrate on podcasts without presenters that love themselves.

I forgot to mention in a previous post, that i listen regularly to the Cinemaslave podcast. Joe has stopped feeling sorry for himself now, so the show is fun again :D I also like Outside the Cinema. They can be up themselves sometimes, but aren't anywhere near as bad as a previously mentioned podcast.

Mark Kermode FTW :D I think his work on the Simon Mayo show (or the Mark Kermode show as i normally refer to it :D ) is excellent, and even better when i agree with him on something :D

I saw some kind words about us on here and it is much appriecated. Mondo Movie is the podcast that inspired me to do a show and I feel like we owe them a lot and thanks them for putting out such a great show. We try to make each show better than the last and I work very hard to make the sound quality better every week. So if anyone checked out our first few shows and was put off by the sound give us another shot I have upgraded our gear and feel the quality is very good. I love Cinema Diabolca and suggest checking it out if you havent, it might not be for everyone but give it a whirl you might like it.
