I'm one of the many people who have been inspired by great podcasts such as Mondo Movie to have a go at one of their own. I've found very very few podcasts coming out of Australia, so myself and my lovely co-host, Alex, are attempting to fill that gap on a weekly basis.
Our intention is to uncover as many classic or forgotten Australian films while also examining international cinema from an Australian perspective. We want to be accessible to local and international audiences, giving insight into films which locals may take for granted while also discussing the weird and wonderful of international film. Upcoming episodes will feature guests ranging from local film personalities to academics discussing their areas of speciality such as rape/revenge films, South Korean cinema and film distribution history.
So far we have tackled Aboriginal romantic drama Samson & Delilah, Australian noir thriller The Square, and the one and only Philipe Mora's Howling 3: The Marsupials. Upcoming episodes will investigate Brian Trenchard-Smith's Frog Dreaming (aka The Quest, aka The Go-Kids) and BMX Bandits, along with Powell & Pressburger's The Red Shoes.
