Has anyone actually gotten a copy of Synapse's Vampire Circus combo Blu Ray/DVD? It was supposed to be released Dec 14, yet I cancelled my Amazon order as it was listed as "Temporarily out of stock" with an unknown shipping/delivery timeline. I've now ordered directly through Synapse's website, but have yet to receive shipping confirmation.

Is this release delayed? For me, this was the disc release of the year! Well, this plus the Criterion Cronos, Videodrome, and Thin Red Line.

Update: Amazon Canada now has no new copies directly available, and their listing for the Blu Ray has copies available through third parties for the low, low price of $222!

What the hell's going on here? The release date was two days ago.

I'm definitely talking to myself on this one, but I have an answer. In a response to my inquiry, Synapse have said that they don't deal directly with Amazon.ca, so for Canadian Mondo Movie fans the best way is to go through Synapse directly. And the disc has been selling "rather well" and so many retailers are running out of stock.

And in closing, I want to give a festive "fuck you" to those third parties selling copies of this disc through Amazon.ca for over 200 bucks. May your sugar plums be rancid!

Thats weird you're having trouble getting it. I ordered mine through Best Buy and it arrived in my mailbox the other day.

Got it yesterday, direct from Synapse. Can't wait to watch this in high definition. Is there anyone who's watched the Blu Ray that would care to comment on the picture quality?

From what I've read the blu ray disc is region A, but it doesn't bother me, because it comes with the dvd version.

I prefer horror films in standard definition, as it gives a horror movie that raw grainy quality, rather than a polished look.

I've now watched the Blu Ray, and the HD picture makes the film look more vivid in its colour, but certainly doesn't make it looked polished. I mean, the picture is from 1972 and was low budget, believe me the grain is still there.
