The Criterion release of Mystery Train, and a blind-buy of a decent sounding thriller called Katalin Varga . . .

Katalin Varga is absolutely superb. It's been reviewed by myself and someone else in the reviews thread (if you can arsed searching).

Really, really insightful commentary and 'making of' documentary on the disc too.

Mystery Train - lurve it.

Yeah the special features on the Katalin Varga dvd were an added incentive.

Don't think I've seen any Jarmusch film more than once, but Mystery Train is my favourite. Looking forward to the featurette with a 'then and now' on the locations . . .

Dead Man is my most watched along with Ghost Dog, which both contain two of my favourite soundtracks, although it's the Japanese import Ghost Dog soundtrack that's the killer.

I've got a lot of time for Jarmusch who I admire for his unwavering idiosyncrasies. Not for everyone of course. I'm interested to see how Kaurismaki compares.

I'm enjoying his stuff so far. Finished boxset one, Ariel being my favourite by far (probably the most Jarmusch-esque). Also good to see the man himself on the Jonothan Ross doc in boxset three . . .

This came in the post today. Less than a pound a film and it's boxed - how easily swayed I am (considering I already have 2 of the films).

I don't get the 'campaign' part - what campaign ??? The Stuff and Night of the Living Dead are the two I've seen. Wish they'd release The Stuff in a bumper Larry Cohen boxset.

Just got the winning £12.50 bid on the Ace in the Hole Criterion. I've gone Criterion loco since gettng a decent R1 player . . .

After seeing Woman in the Dunes on the 70MC, I splashed out on the natty Criterion set, Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara. Pondered about getting the individual Masters of Cinema dvds with commentaries, but they only have two of the films included in the set, and I'm a sucker for nice neat boxsets . . .

Herbie: The Love Bug: Got this to watch with the kids. Amused me that several things stood out as being relevant to the late 60s as there are quite a few references to flower power. But I was really taken aback by the quality of the cinematography in the night time section where Herbie goes AWOL culminating in him trying to drive himself off the Goldern Gate bridge. These night time scenes of the town are beautiful. If I could work out how to circumvent my MACs block on screenshots from DVDs I would post these somewhere as they really are stunning.

...it just arrived this morning, and what a thing of beauty it is! Top stuff for a packaging nerd like me, silver print on a matte white box, with embossed fingerprint cover design. Sleek individually boxed films and an essay booklet. mmmmmm (this is not just a dvd boxset. This is an M&S dvd boxset).

Also stocked up on more Jarmusch, the Criterion of Night on Earth (love the Q&A's with Jim on each of the Criterion discs), and the R1 Limits of Control, which includes a cool 50 minute on-set documentary not on the R2 . . .

'In September of 1987, a security guard at an abandoned hospital in Brazil took a day off work in order to see Herbie Goes Bananas at a movie theater with his family. While he was absent, two scavengers removed a canister from the site that contained radioactive material used for radiotherapy, which led to a major nuclear accident.'
