Yeah, so just something I wanted to get opinions on. I hopped over to HMV.co.uk and noticed that Re-Animator was up for pre-order. It's the version with the novelty syringe pen, the same version that I believe is already out on Region 1. So I was just trying to work out which region editon I should order. Are they exactly the same in content and quality, or do they differ in some way? I know that Region 2 DVD's tend to have better image quality due to how they are made. It's just I really love this film, and wanna make sure I get the best copy possible. Hit me up people! :D

Re-animator is one my my all-time favourites too. Content-wise I'm pretty sure its exactly the same edition in both regions – frankly, I'd go for the cheaper option! Or you might want to hang to see if the packaging differs. Ben has got the Region 1 version – I was in two minds whether to go get it having bought the Elite version a couple of years ago, but luckily I got freebie check-discs of the new edition from work, so I could just stick the discs in the Elite box. Hurrah!

And we're planning to review the new edition of Re-animator on an upcoming show - not the next one, but probably the show after that.

Thanks for your thoughts Dan, and I'll probably wait to see what others say, because maybe the packaging will slightly differ. Yeah I knew you & Ben loved Re-Animator too, and definatly look forward to your review. By reviewing the "new edition", do you mean reviewing the DVD content, or does the DVD feature a new cut of some sort. Because as much as I love the film, I have yet to read up on its history; I only caught it for the first time recently on Film 4 (shame on me I know)!

Nope, I just mean the DVD content... it's the same, original version of the movie (although uncut in the UK for the first time!). That said, there is a variety of deleted scenes on the DVD too...

Correct me if i'm wrong here anyone, but I believe region 2 discs are only better in picture quality if it's a Pal 25 fps master i.e. film shot over this side of the pond.
Therefore Re-animator would be converted from NTSC to PAL as it would have originally been 24 fps NTSC and the conversion to pal would degrade the picture slightly. But I don't think there would be much in it.

I've got the R1 disc mainly because as Dan says it's cheaper.

I've got the Elite disc (Region 1), and I'm very happy with it. I can't compare it to the PAL version, but I think you'd be happy with either.

The new Anchor Bay version appears to be the same on R1 and R2. It contains all the extras of the previous Elite Millennium release with one major new addition - a fantastic newly produced 70 min documentary. Along with the recent Street Trash making-of it's one of the best extras i've seen recently and makes the disc a must-buy even if you (like me) have one of the earlier versions.

Any idea if there is going to be a Re-animator boxset some time in the near future? I wouldn't mind buying Re-animator, but would rather wait if all three films are going to be released together.

Beyond Re-animator is actually pretty good fun. I mean, it's no classic, but there's a great performance from Jeffrey Combs, plenty of Screaming Mad George-engineered splatter, and a classic sequence where a re-animated rat plays with a bitten-off cock!

As for Bride Of Re-animator, it was reissued a couple of years ago in Region 1 by Lionsgate, and can be bought very cheaply. However, this version is a full-screen version of the R-rated cut. The release back in the late 90s included the unrated cut, plus commentaries and extras, but that's out-of-print and goes for a shit-load more...
