Ain't nothing crappy about a mac - Mondo Movie has been edited on one since the very start! :mrgreen:

Havent seen it (or if i have I have blotted out the memory) but in Leonard Part 6 apparently Bill Cosby was fond of holding a coke can near his face with the label in view.

How about the Pepsi can turning into a little animated figure in The Golden Child?
Although I dont really mind real world product placements and most of the time dont really notice it.
If a janitor is walking around a corridor with a drink in Terminator 2 he might as well be using something from a vending machine.
Sometimes when they go to great lengths to avoid a well known product it can be more distracting.

The Social Network--jeez--I am getting scared by all the references to this being a shoe in for big awards.
The FB creator had a very lame-o appearance in the Simpsons and it came conveniently at the time of the movie being released. Almost feels like a conspiracy to push this film into prominence on all fronts.
I have a FB account (decided to try it early this year) and am just too lazy to delete it.

I remember a scene at the start of Batman Forever where Alfred asks about making dinner, and Bats hee-lariously quips "I'll get drive through" - and Mcdonalds using the clip in their Happy Meal adverts. KAPOW!

I really want a shiny Mac to replace my crappy PC in the new year. I blame the product placement in this thread . . .

Sorry; nothing particularly wrong with a shiny MAC as long as you're not using as a gaming device, then i'd stay well clear. For me one would be useful for the likes of Final Cut Pro for film editing etc....

Does Jules and Vincent's conversation in "Pulp Fiction" about the differences of McDonalds in Amsterdam count? Funny how Tarantino mixed up real-life McDonalds with Tarantino world's Big Kahuna.

No doubt our corporate fast-food overlords were on their knees thanking the Good Lord for that ironic ultra-hip Pulp Fiction scene.

Can I nominate this post for "Most irritating use of product placement (on the Mondo Movie forum)"?

Dunno why but I always thought Big Kahuna Burger was real :oops: It's got a cool name, but I bet they'd surf up, sorry, serve up burger's with pineapple rings :P

**Burger King was, no doubt, not so happy.

Best use: Ice Cold In Alex.

Most Irritating use: Yellow Submarine. Barely a minute goes by in that film without some reference to the Beatles. Even in the title!

Ducati was pretty shameful in Tron Legacy.

Also found it an oddity that the kid in Let Me In was wearing a Lacoste jumper with the croc logo in such sharp focus; didn't realise that kids in New Mexico living in apartment blocks who are saps dressed like chavs in the 80's

I usually find product placement to be a breath of fresh air. Products are an integral part of our lives, and movies with brand name products or familiar chain stores in the background always seem more grounded in reality.

A prime example of a movie I saw recently was 10 Items or Less with Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega. They go shopping in a Target, which is sort of an upscale Wal-Mart, and Freeman, playing himself, expresses amazement at the low prices. It was the best scene in what was a fairly uninteresting, albeit unusual, movie.

In the final credits, it notes that no company paid the filmmakers for a product placement.

Quite possibly one of the most blatant and toe-curling uses of product placement comes from Adam Sandler's 2002 animated atrocity Eight Crazy Nights. Wikipedia says it best:

The film includes a scene/song where numerous mascots of popular businesses come to life and attempt to force Davey to confront his past. These characters include the Foot Locker referee, the KB Toys soldiers, Miss See's of See's Candies, the Victoria's Secret gown, the Panda Express panda, The Sharper Image Chair, the Radio Shack walkie talkie, the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf cup, and a gigantic bottle labeled GNC. The following brands are seen:

* GNC - Carl Weathers
* Lysol
* 7 Eleven
* Foot Locker - Peter Dante
* Radio Shack - Blake Clark
* Dunkin' Donuts
* See's Candies - Ellen Albertini Dow
* Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - Lari Friedman
* Panda Express - Kevin Farley
* KB Toys - Dylan and Cole Sprouse
* Pepsi
* Atari
* Spencer's Gifts
* Sharper Image - Tom Kenny
* Pet's Land
* Sir Speedy
* Victoria's Secret - Tyra Banks
* Fila
* Taco Bell
* Game Boy Advance
* Sbarro's
* Ben & Jerry's
* Tie Rack
* Body Shop
* Sears (Deleted scene)
* Greyhound Lines

I will never lives this film down to all of my friends who joined me on this misguided adventure just because I got hold of 14 preview screening tickets good for two people each. So to the 28 of you [including myself] I am forever sorry.

For a big bonnafide classic ET has some choice product placement i.e. M&Ms (or was it Reeces Pieces) & Speak and Spell. But it adds authenticity to it. Not having products that kids would have around them would be weird. A number of references to Star Wars products as well
