I was thinking of getting Splice on Blu Ray, and noticed it came in a Blu Ray / DVD double pack. So what's the fuckin point of that then?! I can't see any reason why this would be a good idea to put out. I own a Blu Ray player, and pick and chose which films I buy in HD and which are fine on good old DVD. What good is it me having a copy on both formats??? Hope it's a trend that quickly gets snuffed out . . .

Couldn't disagree more, for me the combi packs are perfect, as i can have the blu ray to watch on my lovely hd tv and the rest of my family who love to watch films don't miss out as i have the dvd for them to borrow.

So does it come with two boxes so you don't have to share a box when you have two copies of the same film to pass around? It still seems a really weak reason for this thing to exist. I don't remember there being any DVD/VHS multipack's back in the day . . .

Inception is the same. I imagine the reason is to persuade DVD owners to pick it up, and then hopefully convert a few to Blu-ray once they have some double packs in their collection. It's the same price the Blu-ray only would be, and it'll cost the distributor virtually nothing to whack a DVD in there.

I have no problem with it - I'm going to give my Inception DVD to a friend. They won't get a box, but fuck it, it's free!

Think I've just revealed the packaging nerd in me - just find it slightly annoying having my Blu Rays with a tacky 'AND YOU GET A DVD TOO!' banner, and a disc housed inside that is useless to me. Don't get me started on the triple version BONUS DIGITAL DOWNLOAD EDITION :D . . .

That's what cd wallets are for  Personally i'm more swayed to buy the Blu Ray version if it comes with the dvd, as it poses as better value for money and i'm then able to watch at my computer and on my other tv in the front room, as i've only got a PS3 for my Blu Ray capabilities and one HD-TV. I didn't buy Four Lions on Blu Ray because of this, instead opting for the DVD version.

Haha, for me that's not an issue - for many few years at least 50% of my movie collection consisted of timecoded VHS tapes in plain white boxes that I got from work, which were then replaced by hundreds of DVD check discs in simple jewel cases or plastic sleeves. I've still loads of check discs stored in two of those big CD/DVD wallets - packaging is good, but far from essential!

I guess the movie is all I care about - not really that bothered about the container. My collection isn't even on display - it's two deep, out-of-sight in a cupboard, although that's more a space issue than an aesthetic one. That all said, I do like a deluxe fold out DVD/Blu-ray box set as much as the next man!

mmmmm - that Inception silver briefcase set looks pretty nice, even if it is a bit of a rip off of the last Blade Runner release . . .
