Overall I think I've seen a pretty good range of films this year and it was quite difficult honing my Top 10 down to how it stands now.
Two weeks ago it would have been a Gallic top 3, but after watching Black Swan in the interim Aronofsky's managed to smash his way in like an armoured Humvee through an Iraqi village showing that the other side of the Atlantic is still a beast to be reckoned with when it comes to stunningly original film making.

1. Un Prophete
2. Enter The Void
3. Black Swan
4. Amer
5. Valhalla Rising
6. Inception
7. The American
8. Winter’s Bone
9. Micmacs
10. Monsters

Where did you see this to? I've been desperate to see the film after seeing the trailer; claimed to have a 9th December Uk release date; yet it's been nowhere to be seen down here in shitty Plymouth.

Managed to see it at the Halloween Frightfest. Not sure what kind of release it has got generally in the UK.

I have a suspicion if I'd got to see The Way Back it would probably have gone in top 10. Hopefully get round to it soon.

I was going to put Dogtooth in, but I thought it was 2009 - anyway it skirts the number 10 spot for me.

I really want to see Skeletons, but have been unable to track it down as of yet. Kermode and Isaacs were really banging on about it on Radio 5 - sounds excellent.

Totally forgot about The Limits of Control, again that would probably skirt the top 10 for me. I know a lot of people thought it was a bit pretentious and wanky, but style over substance can often be a winner for me and fuck, what a cool soundtrack.

Again I also really enjoyed The Killer Inside Me and found the controversy surrounding it a tad lame. Not a Top 10er, but Top 20 certainly.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Mother and The Illusionist are all on my to watch list too. Particularly buzzing about Mother and The Illusionist.

Well Philip French reviewed Dogtooth in April of this year, so that's good enough for me :D

I had Skeletons from lovefilm. That's one that impressed on first watch, and one that I like even more on reflection. I'm sure I'll love it more on second watch, not needing to adjust to the offbeat tone.

Yeah Limits of Control definitely not top 10 material, and almost sent me to sleep in the cinema. But had a hypnoic tone that did draw me in, and I enjoyed Bill Murray playing the villain at the end.

I heard The Illusionist is getting a DVD only (no Blu Ray) release!

I ain't questioning Mr French!

Dammit! I've just been bought a Blu Ray player and was greatly looking forward to watching things exactly like The Illusionist on it.

Indeed. It would be a perfect film for Blu Ray with Chomet's intricate illustrative style. I don't get the thinking there. Still no Belleville Rendez-Vous Blu Ray either  . . .

I have a terrible memory for what films I've seen in a given year, haha. So for ease of making this list i've used this to pick my faves. In alphabetical order:

Buried - Great performance and tense as hell, thrilled me to the end.

Disappearance of Alice Creed, The - Fun thriller with a great twisty plotline.

Exit Through the Gift Shop - My pick of the year's documentaries, fascinating and thought provoking.

Inception - What more can be said, for me it drags in the final third but by then the visuals, sci-fi plot and insane action had me hooked.

Jackass 3D - Most fun I've had in a cinema, possibly ever.

Kick-Ass - Ran out to buy it on blu-ray on the day of release. Great music, comedy and action.

Monsters - Transcends it's 'creature feature' premise and becomes a thing of beauty.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - Most unique film of the year. At once a celebration and a biting satire of youth culture.

Social Network, The - Again, what more can be said? Incredible performances, script and direction. The soundtrack is phenominal too.

Toy Story 3 - Battling The Incredibles in my head for best Pixar movie. From a studio that only releases films of quality, this is top of the pile.

Honourable Mentions - Other movies that stick out in my memory from 2010.

Documentary:
Winnebago Man
Best Worst Movie
Catfish
Gasland
It Came From Kuchar

Insane Visuals:
Enter the Void
Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
Mr. Nobody
Symbol

Horror:
Human Centipede (First Sequence), The
I Spit on Your Grave (2010)
Piranha 3D
Splice
Loved Ones, The
A Serbian Film
Red Hill

Keep in mind that I haven't yet seen a lot of films that have been receiving a lot of praise this year such as Black Swan and 127 Hours. This is obviously just my personal list.

I'm awfully glad to see Monsters on a few lists. Try as I might I've been unable to convince 90% of my acquaintances of its merits.

Sadly, however, I've found myself enjoying Inception less and less with each subsequent viewing. I can't put my finger on why, because I'm convinced that I really should love it.

Strange how these things work :/

9. The Social Network
10. Machete

I've seen Boonmee since I threw this list together and that would probably get in but since i saw it this year i'm not allowing it :)
