Nobody mentioned REQUIEM　FOR　A　HEAVYWEIGHT (1962), which was an excellent film starring Anthony Quinn as the title character and Jackie Gleason as hit coach. It follows the story of a washed up boxer, who, at age 36, has to find a place in society for himself after having dropped out of school at age 13, and knows nothing of the world but boxing. The best boxing film ever.
