You may not have seen it yet, but you should, you definitely should. See it immediately and come back. If you have seen it, I'd love to hear what you thought of it. It's as bizarre and outlandish as anything I've seen made in the last 10 years or so and yet constantly hilarious in all sorts of unfamiliar ways. It's out on DVD on R1, and apparently there's an Estonian R2 DVD with English subtitles: http://www.lasering.ee/index.php?make=i ... e_id=27319. I highly recommend it, especially for fans of Roy Andersson and Aki Kaurismaki.

You had me at "Aki Kaurismaki". Fair enough, those were the last two words in your post, but still.

A quick look at reviews online throws up references to Bunuel, Tarkovsky, Lynch, Tarr, Fellini and Pasolini. I might have to give this a go. There's an R1 DVD too, btw, if anyone's wary of buying from Estonia.

Roy Andersson is great too. You, The Living really cracked me up. And I picked up Songs from the Second Floor the other day.

Cheers for the tip.

Songs From the Second Floor is incredible, and similar in comedic style to this. Also my favorite film of the last 10 years.

I thought I was lucky to be able to catch The Temptation of St. Tony in the theater, but it turned out to be a digital projection of the wrong aspect ratio. And I still felt lucky!

If you want to pile up references, there are certain cinematographic similarities to Grandrieux and the film is certainly Kafkaesque, with one scene reminiscent of a particular scene in The Trial (but a little darker), and a pretty obvious reference to a certain Greenaway scene. I can't imagine that you won't appreciate it.

Are there mostly Europeans here or are there also Americans? I'm American, myself, and I got my local library to purchase the R1 copy, but the R2 version is a bit harder to find, so I dug it up. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy... and come back to discuss.
