New top secret JJ Abrams film--about kids in 1979 who are making a home movie and they encounter some strange train wreck-something with aliens maybe. Looks inspired by ET or the Goonies.

If its true that they are making a Romero-style zombie movie then it could be historically inaccurate. Zombies were still mostly associated with voodoo that I can recall-and kid filmmakers inspired by aliens and traditional monsters like vampires, werewolves, man made monsters.
In fact I dont remember much interest in zombies until well into the late 80s.

Smart kids to have seize the trend quickly-maybe they are Italian.

Really? Even with the Romero dead trilogy and the like? I think the zombie thing is pure geek speculation anyway, with the film shrouded in the predictable Abrams hype-tastic secrecy.

Trailer looks like 100% pure Spielberg homage, wonder if the film can escape from his shadow . . .

It has been described in story summaries they are making a zombie movie although from the trailer I only noticed a quick glimpse of someone who looked a bit off--couldnt tell if it was a zombie or not. Maybe its a ghoul or vampire after all. My geek speculator meter is hovering in the red until further information clarifies things.
The second part of the Romero trilogy only hit theaters the same year the story is set. I think zombies started to take off when they reached the parody stage in Return of the Living Dead.

Speaking of dead, will activity in these forums spark again or will Allen Fatie take over.

He probably is the most regular poster on here at the moment! We need some kind of recruitment push, people who don't have blogs to spend their free time on  . . .

I love the trailer to this film; the initial 30 second spot had me hooked and then the recent full trailer reminded me very much of Stand By Me; Super 8 is certainly one of the biggest interests i have for this year, but i'm trying to keep my hype and expectation down from those dizzy heights that these things can sore to. It was rumored that J.J. was going to be working on a Cloverfield sequel, but i don't think this is going to be it; though it will probably be 'alien' orientated, my hopes is that the main focus of Super 8 is on the small group of kid film makers and this 'event' plays out in the background somewhat.

I'm really looking forward to this. I like Abram's approach to his films, the Spielberg influences are obvious, but Spielberg circa late 70s/early 80s is a great influence.

My guess is it's some kind of super soldier project gone awry, which would be funny if it coincides with Captain America.

This is my first post a for a while. Been tied up trying to get an extra curricular activity off the ground and it has seriously eaten into my spare time. Here's hoping the forum doesn't collapse.
