Looks like the remake is going to be directed by one of my faves Nicolas Winding Refn, scripted by Alex Garland and starring indie boy Ryan Gosling!

My interest is well and truly piqued.

I know nothing about the original, but I always look forward to a new Refn film. Odd how the Empire writer overlooked Valhalla Rising, as if Bronson was his last film . . .

I loved the original as a youngster, but haven't seen it for some time (10+ years).

I think Valhalla Rising is a bit of a Marmite movie (although I think it's the best thing Refn's done) and it went straight to DVD (I think) so maybe the writer's opted for the film that is more 'known'.

It has taken me a couple of rewatches to come round to the same opinion, though I still haven't seen the second and third of his Pusher films . . .

The third Pusher blows the other two out of the water, and I really like the 1st and 2nd!

It's all about Zlatko Buric's performance - monumental.
