The older I get, the easier I find it to say no to movies that push the cruelty factor too far. I don't mind seeing people ripped apart in a campy, non-serious manner, but I derive no pleasure from seeing people abused and mistreated.
I'm still in my 20's and I used to like pushing the boundaries with the film's that I watched but as i'm getting older I am starting to get more offended by it. I watched a film the other night called "Chaos" and it featured one of the most brutal and just plain right nasty acts of violence to a woman i've seen in some time and I just thought to myself "Why the hell am I watching this?". Films like "A Serbian Film" don't offend me at all, it was too well made and OTT to be offensive. The film "Chaos" was very gritty and back to basics looking giving it a sledgehammer impact when the violence was put up on screen.
